I have a small kitchen so I don’t keep a bunch of fancy appliances to fill up my kitchen but the one appliance I cannot possibly do without is a food processor. From the simplest of the tasks like slicing vegetables to complex ones like kneading pasta dough, I use it for almost everything! I love how it makes everything so simple and quick that you no longer have to think twice even if you are in the mood of a difficult recipe like homemade apple pie! So that you can also make the most out of your food processor the way I do, I have put together a couple of tips for using it efficiently.
Use the pulse button where it’s needed:
The pulse option that you have in your food processor is quite useful. Most people have been using their food processor for ages without fully understanding the purpose of this option. It gives shorts bursts of energy and can be used when you want to coarsely chop the ingredients. It also comes in handy while starting a processing cycle since it brings all the ingredients together and helps things get going. Even during the middle of the processing, if it seems that the blades are stuck due to a large piece of food, you can use the pulse option to get things moving again.
Avoid processing thinner mixtures:
Knowing the difference between the purposes of a blender and that of a food processor is important. As a general rule, leave the thinner consistencies as a job for the blender. For example, if you are making soups, thin sauces or smoothies, blender is the best tool for the job. Although a food processor will also do the job just fine, it will result in a lot of mess while doing so. Most food processors have a fill line on the inside of the bowl which is indicates the maximum amount of liquid that you can add to it. Any liquid beyond this level will be spilled right out of the bowl onto the kitchen counter.
Cut the ingredients into smaller pieces:
Although the food processor is a strong machine and should be able to handle tough tasks, it’s better to chop the larger ingredients such as onions or carrots into a few pieces before processing them. Doing so assists the motor, prevents it from being overworked or overheated and completes the processing task faster.
Pause the machine at intervals:
It’s not at all a good idea to keep the machine running for too long. Some recipes like that for nut butters call for a long processing time. In such cases, it is important to pause the machine at intervals, let its motor cool down for a while before beginning to process again. If you process continuously for a long time, not only does it risk the motor of burning up, the excess amount of heat being produced will also degrade whatever you are processing.
Proper cleaning and storage:
Proper cleaning and storage of best food processor will ensure your family’s health and also extend the life of the machine. Remove all the detachable parts and either hand-wash them properly using mild dish soap, warm water and a non abrasive sponge or place the parts in the dishwasher if your machine is dishwasher safe. If you are washing it in a dishwasher, always place the detachable components in the top rack otherwise you risk damaging them due to the excessive heat reaching the lower racks of the dishwasher. Leave the parts to dry completely and then store them in a dry place after reattaching all the parts so that you don’t lose any.
If you treat it well, a food processor will return the favor by serving you well for many years. A good food processor will help you with almost all of the time consuming tasks in the kitchen and is worth every penny you pay for it.
